Urban sprawl is a long-lasting trend in Europe, where approximately two-thirds of the urban population now live in the suburbs of Europe’s 99 major metropolitan areas. The growing concentration of people and jobs outside central areas raises major challenges. In particular, how to reconcile the desire for individual housing and green environments with the carbon footprint of automobile-oriented lifestyles. This webinar will present the major trends of travel behaviour in the suburbs, and will propose several avenues for change.
