Car cost index and fuel turning point
The Car Cost Index gives you a impression of the changes in the costs of operating company cars. We will inform you periodically of the changes in this index so that you can adjust the standard amounts in your company car policy, if necessary.
The graph below shows the development of the vehicle cost index as of 2007 and the fuel turning point as of 2009. The base year for the vehicle cost index is 1989.
| Car Cost Index | |||
| fuel type | index July 2011 | index Januari 2012 | |
| petrol | 170 | 171 | |
| diesel | 178 | 179 | |
The changes compared with July 2011 are due to:
- an increase of the fuel litre prices of petrol and diesel
- an increase of the holder's tax
- an increase of the insurance premium
- an increase of the list prices
- a decrease of the base lending rate
- a decrease of the costs owning to an increase of the number of 'clean' vehicles, hence a lower fuel consumption per kilometre.
| Fuel turning point | |||
| 45,000 kilometres per year | |||
We advise you to continue using a fuel turning point of 45,000 kilometres per year. Exceptions are vehicles with a 14% additional tax liability. A diesel-fuelled model of these types of vehicles is always cheaper than a petrol-fuelled model because these vehicles are not charged with tax on passenger cars and motorcycles (Dutch: BPM) and are exempt from holder's tax.
